On the Road At Last!

First, thanks for all the well wishes and even gifts! A delightful surprise.

The word that comes to mind today? Infrastructure! The roads are a mess. No charming parkways and byways for us. Since our rig is 11 feet high, we have to take Rte 95–oh and we are pulling (hauling?) a 5 x 8 UHaul trailer with house stuff to take to Nick and Jamie’s new place. It is always tricky getting through NYC and today, mid day on a Friday, was no exception. Mike is doing a great job navigating through traffic and high winds. This is our one long day on highways and it’s so worth it to see the “kids”!

The dogs did not appreciate the stop and go traffic and bumpy roads but they have settled in now. Not having to get food at the place where you get gas is as good (and easy) as I had hoped. The bluetooth speaker our Office Manager Nicole recommended has saved the trip–so much clearer over the road noise! Cranking new Springsteen on the Jersey Turnpike in our RV in our 60th year–that reads like a bad SNL skit.

Why an RV?

Even before COVID, we liked the idea of traveling with the dogs, at our own pace, making our own food. Then BOOM! The pandemic came so when Rachel moved to Santa Monica and Nick and Jamie bought a house in Rockville, MD, we were happy to have the camper.

After a lot of research and looking, we bought a Winnebago Navion 24D. It is a Class C, 25.5 feet long, 7 feet wide and 11 feet high. It is on a Mercedes chassis and pretty comfortable–at least in our one drive to Vermont. It has a full kitchen (no dishwasher), a bathroom with shower and a queen size Murphy bed. Our pandemic dogs cannot be close enough to us so this is a win for them!

Chillaxing

I forget to remember a lot.

We are in the final days before our trip. We just moved back into our house after 9 plus weeks of renovation. While we are gone, the interior will be painted which means clearing out a lot of stuff. It feels great but I keep forgetting things. And losing things. My mind feels like a jumble-bumble so I make a list. And another. And so on. What a terrific problem to have after a year in the pandemic: being very occupied!

We leave behind some projects, a whole lot of people with keys, and the cold spring of Falmouth. We go forth ready to work from the road and spend time soaking up new places along the way.
